SOAP #1

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the first edition of Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer (SOAP)! It’s a Bible-reading technique that I like to (loosely) follow sometimes.

Anyway, without further ado...

Scripture

“Why did You ever send me? Ever since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has done harm to this people…” Then יהוה said to Moses, “Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh…”
Exodus 5:22-6:1

Observation

It was necessary that Pharaoh reject the request to release the Israelites, so that God’s power could be shown in a mighty act of redemption. The Lord had, of course, planned this all out (cf. Ex 6:7; 9:16; 14:30-31).

Application

We often come to God with angry and confounded questions to which God confidently replies that He knows all about it and that He did it for a darn good reason, too.

Scripture

Note the threefold judgment of Jesus by Pilate:

“I find no guilt in this man.”
Luke 23:4

“I did not find this man guilty…”
Luke 23:14

“I have found in him no guilt…”
Luke 23:22

Observation/Application

GOD IS NOT GUILTY

Prayer

Thank You, Lord, that You are not guilty! Help me to trust You as such.
