Scripture
He makes me lie down in green pastures
He leads me beside quiet waters.
[…]
He guides me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
Psalm 23:2-3
As we were being violently storm-tossed, they began to jettison cargo. And on the third day they threw the ship’s tackle overboard with their own hands. When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope of our being saved was at last abandoned…
Paul stood up among them and said, “Men…I urge you to take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship!”
Acts 27:18-22
Observation
How do David and Paul view the trials of life? Under the shepherdship of YHWH, the mundane takes on a new appearance. Paul looks at the Alexandrian vessel beneath his feet and sees verdant fields; he looks at the raging sea beside him and behold, serene waters!
Application
With such picturesque beauty do the paths of righteousness manifest themselves to the one in YHWH’s fold! (cf. 1 John 5:3)
Prayer
Maker of the wind and waves
Shepherd of the flock You saved,
As You lead me through Your righteous way
Though waves seem rough and skies look gray
In green pasture near blue lake
I will recline for Your name’s sake.
